About Sandy
"The best way to find yourself, is to lose yourself in the service of others" --Mahatma Ghandhi.
Biography:
As a yoga teacher and yoga therapist, empowering people to rediscover wellbeing as they age is my heart's greatest desire. Teaching with compassion and patience allows my students to explore the practice with freedom and ease.
Yoga was the catalyst for change in my life. For me, it has been the simplest and most powerful form of self healing. I learned that one does not have to accept infirmity as we age. It is possible to heal oneself. Today, I am mentally stronger, physically more active, and have greater vitality than ever before. This journey has been a blessing. It is an affirmation to live with passion and enthusiasm and to practice and teach what I love most deeply, yoga.
Training:
I was formally trained in 2006 at the Sivananda Yoga Center in India. That same year I moved from California to Shady Cove, Oregon and recognized a great need to adapt the yoga practice for students with physical limitations. I continue my studies with Max Strom, incorporating breath, alignment principals, and adaptations for both the beginner and seasoned practitioner.
Commited to making yoga more accessible to all, I completed my Yoga Therapy certification August 2010 through Loyola Marymount University. As a certified yoga therapist, I find great joy and personal satisfaction in helping clients living with chronic pain and illness reclaim their lives. Seniors experience significant results when doing chair yoga and breathing practice.
"I feel so much better everytime we work together, I know I need yoga now, more than ever".... 88 year old student, under hospice care - Medford, July 2011
"I blew out a candle for the first time in years, I was proud of myself"........87 year old student, Chair yoga class - Shady Cove, August 2007
My students are my greatest teachers. I bow to their courage and determination to live life to the fullest.
