Is yoga a religion?

Yoga is not a religion. It is a personal practice. Yoga does not conflict with one's religion and personal truths. Yoga can actually deepen your own spiritual connection and cultivate compassion for others. Yoga is a celebration of being human; it is learning how to live with optimal health and find balance in our bodies, mind and heart.

What is Hatha Yoga?

All yoga falls into the broad category of Hatha yoga; however, within this realm there are many different types of yoga practices. My classes are suitable for those that are starting out with yoga and want to learn the basics and proper alignment within the poses.

Beginner and intermediate students who want more challenge will enjoy a vinayasa based yoga practice where we flow with the breath through a series of sequenced postures.

How do I choose a class that's right for me?

Like anything, the best way to find what you like is to try it out.  I offer several types of classes: Yoga Basics, Prime of Life yoga and Vinaysa Flow. Yoga basics is good for beginners and those with heath issues.  Prime of Life yoga covers the basics with mini flow sequences. Vinaysa Flow is designed for more movement and will increase one's heart rate. Speak with a teacher before class regarding any health issues or concerns. Personalized yoga therapy sessions and private instruction are also available.

What do I bring to class?

Students should bring their own yoga mat (hygienic reasons) and a blanket. Blocks and straps are provided. I encourage students to wear comfortable clothes that are easy to move in. Bring a water bottle if you like and socks or a sweater for relaxation at the end of class.

If I'm not very flexible, can I still do yoga?

Yes! Yoga is for everyone! The most important thing for any beginner is to listen to your body, have patience, and breathe. Through a regular yoga practice, flexibility increases, as well as strength, concentration, stamina, and awareness. Perhaps one of yoga's greatest gifts, is cultivating the ability to become "more flexible" in all areas of your life.
